ABSTRACT This study presents a comparative analysis of the sound system of Umuchu dialect and Standard Igbo Language with the objective of Comparing and  finding the similarities and difference and also identifying the mutual intelligibility of the dialect and language. This paper examines what constitute their similarities and differences that make the dialect a variant of Igbo language. A comparative method was adopted for this study.
