ABSTRACT Brief Background:  Preeclampsia is a multisystem disorder in pregnancy affecting 5-14% of all pregnancies worldwide. Preeclampsia is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases later in life of both the mother and the baby. It is common but its aetiology remains unknown.
